Overview

The Moralis Trading App is a crypto trading mobile experience built for speed, control, and community. Designed for both first-time users and seasoned degens, it offers smooth onboarding, powerful trading tools, and real-time market insights — all powered by Moralis’ Web3 infrastructure.

Background

As the Moralis.com user base rapidly expanded, especially among Solana-native traders, it became clear that our community needed a faster, more accessible mobile experience. Users were actively discovering tokens via our DEX terminal but had to leave the platform to trade through Jupiter or Phantom, leading to a disjointed user journey. To address this, we set out to build a dedicated mobile trading app that would streamline trade execution, boost user retention, and create a seamless bridge between our core platform and mobile users. With this new product, we also aimed to diversify our offering, onboard new users, and compete more directly in the fast-growing mobile crypto trading space.

Discovery

To kick off the Moralis Trading App initiative, I facilitated a design workshop that brought together key stakeholders across product, engineering, and leadership. The goal was to align on the core vision, principles, and value drivers of the product. Through structured brainstorming, we collectively defined the initial concept and experience pillars that would shape the app's direction.

Our discovery outcomes crystallized into the following foundation:

  • The app will function as a self-custodial wallet on Solana.

  • All trading fees will be redistributed within the community — Moralis will take zero cuts.

  • User can post trades in a live feed - if others buy from their post, all fees go to the original poster.

  • The app will launch as invite-only to encourage exclusivity and social traction.

  • A referral system will reward users with the trading fees of the friends they onboard — a community-driven growth loop.

This initial alignment framed the core design challenge and gave me the clarity needed to start exploring the concept.

Initial Concept

I prioritized getting real user feedback as early as possible. To move fast, I leveraged our existing design system to rapidly prototype the entire concept. This allowed me to build a high-fidelity, interactive version of the app in a matter of days and put it in front of real users from the Moralis community for validation and early insights.

User Validation

I run user interviews with the community members and got the following insights about the concept:

⛔️ Interest in Trade Feed, But Low Willingness to Post

While users found it engaging to see other people's trades in a live feed, most were reluctant to posting their own trades. Concerns were centered around privacy, fear of judgment, or the feed becoming spammy with influencers shilling tokens.

⛔️ Unclear Value in Earning from Posts

The idea that you could earn fees if someone buys from your post was not seen as clear or motivating enough to encourage active participation in the feed.

⛔️ Home Screen Rather Unnecessary

Users indicated they would likely use the app to quickly buy tokens discovered via Twitter or Moralis, and then manage the position through their holdings portfolio — making the home screen less relevant to their flow.

✅ Strong Interest in Whale Tracking & Alerts

Users were highly interested in seeing large trades on the chart and getting notified about significant whale or entity movements, as these often signal major price shifts.

✅ High Demand for Trade Automation Tools

Instead of posting trades, users overwhelmingly expressed the need for Limit Orders, Stop-Loss and Take-Profit features. Many had lost money from missing exit moments during price pumps or dumps and wanted automation tools to apply trading strategies without needing to monitor prices 24/7.

Iteration

Refined Main Menu

To quickly validate the core flows, I built high-fidelity prototypes using our design system. This enabled fast iteration and early feedback from stakeholders and users.

Limit Orders

The Limit Order feature was a key requested feature by the community. I crafted an experience that allows users to set a limit price for their order and the app will automatically execute the order when the price reaches the set limit.

TP/SL management

For the desired TP/SL management, I crafted and experience providing user with a simple drag and drop interface to set the TP/SL levels. and an Orders menu where they can manage all their orders.

MVP Scoping

After validating the refined concept through a final round of user interviews, I collaborated with the dev team and stakeholders to define a realistic MVP scope. With technical constraints and the urgency of a fast go-to-market, we decided to focus on delivering a lean but high-impact version of the app that captures core value and allows us to iterate based on real market feedback.

The following features were prioritized for the MVP release of the Moralis Trading App:

  • Self-custodial wallet for full user ownership

  • Token trading on Solana with a seamless swap experience between tokens

  • Wallet holdings tracking with real-time position overviews

  • Invite-only onboarding flow to drive exclusivity and FOMO

  • Referral system where 100% of trading fees go to the referrer, incentivizing community-led growth

Colors & Typography

To capture the fast-paced energy of crypto degens, I created a visual identity that blends futuristic aesthetics with usability in both dark and light modes. The app uses vibrant gradients, glowing accents, and a cyberpunk-inspired palette to deliver a sleek, high-tech vibe that resonates with Web3 culture.

I chose Space Grotesk as the primary typeface — a geometric sans-serif that feels bold, modern, and just strange enough to make the app feel out of this world. It helps the interface stand out in a sea of generic fintech products and reinforces our distinct brand presence.

Final Design

Apps's Main Menu

A simple trading wallet with clear focus on what matters. The Holdings menu highlights your balance and gains. The Search makes token discovery fast and convenient. The referral system is powered by a Rewards menu, showing earnings and invites.

Swaping Tokens

A trading experience without distractions. Clean token page with chart focus, and clear CTAs. Traditional swap interface designed for clarity and speed. And vibrant pop-up confirmations that instantly notify users of successful trades with sharp contrast.

Dark Mode

Dark mode is essential for crypto natives and data-heavy interfaces. I picked bold, neon-accented colors that speak directly to every degen, landing on a vibe that feels futuristic, fast, and fun — no regrets, full send Web3 energy.
